Since the recent update, which shifted Euroean mink to the category of<strong>Critically Endangered Species<\/strong>, it contains the most updated information currently available\u00a0about\u00a0its status.<\/p>\n<p>In this light it is dissapointing that the <strong>map provided in IUCN Redlist<\/strong> site (cklick <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.iucnredlist.org\/map.html?id=14018\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) is <strong>flawed<\/strong>.\u00a0 The problem is that the definition of yellow-color areas, &#8220;extant populations&#8221;,\u00a0is incorrect.<\/p>\n<p>For Russia, the original legend for yellow areas was &#8211; MAY STILL SURVIVE. The latter\u00a0 meaning is completely different to &#8220;extant&#8221;, as it stand now.\u00a0The yellow areas in Russia does not mean that there are healthy populations, far from this. It means that it is likely something may still exists in this areas in contrast ot the\u00a0red color &#8220;Possibly extinct&#8221; ,\u00a0which mean that\u00a0the species is most likely extinct.<\/p>\n<p>I wrote respective note to IUCN Redlist authorities, but have not received any feedback. Usually to have anything changed in Redlist site is very time-consuming and cumbersome task &#8211;\u00a0do not expect rapid\u00a0corrections.<\/p>\n<p>So keep in mind that this map is very misleading and tust more the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iucnredlist.org\/details\/14018\/0\" target=\"_blank\"> text<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Last, but not least.
